Marie Luc,
2017 Caregiver of the Year

On Tuesday, 5 December 2017, at our Tenth Annual Christmas Gathering For Field Staff, Marie Luc was presented to her colleagues as our Excelsior Caregiver of The Year!

Marie came to work for Aker Kasten in March 2009.  From the very beginning, she displayed a servant’s heart–she was committed to improving the quality of life of each patient assigned to her care.  The words I don’t do that were not part of her vocabulary–nor was lateness nor absence ever part of her history with us.

During these eight years, Marie stayed unfailingly with her patients, often rejecting offers to assume cases that offered more hours or even a greater rate of pay.  When given an opportunity to leave a very challenging patient for what others would surely have seen as a better assignment, Marie said:  If I don’t stay and love her, who will?

Marie chose the path to excellence by continually exceeding patients’ expectations.  She made it a point to keep herself genuinely busy–caring more than others think wise…offering to do more than others think necessary…and, consequently, accomplishing more than others think possible.  In short, Marie Luc is just the kind of caregiver you would want for your own loved ones.

Sadly, we did not know at the time Marie was selected as Aker Kasten Caregiver of The Year, that she will be leaving Aker Kasten.  At the end of January, Marie and her young family will be moving north–just beyond our chosen areas of service.  While we are so thankful for the many excellent home health aides and certified nursing assistants that comprise The Aker Kasten Family of Caregivers, we will certainly miss Marie.  She left her mark with us–and we are truly thankful for the lives she touched during her time with us.  We wish her well in her new home–and pray God’s choicest blessings on her.
